How We Help

We do three main things. Firstly, we have over 350 volunteers undertaking a number of roles within the hospital and in the community and we fund the staff costs of the Voluntary Services Department.

Secondly we fund services such as the patient transport service, Clothes for Dignity and the hospital Wifi

Thirdly each year the charity donates between £150,000 and £200,000 worth of equipment and services to the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. A complete list of donations made each year and how much they cost can be found in the annual accounts.

The majority of our volunteers run the shops and cafes in the hospital. All profits are reinvested into the hospital services and equipment. We always offer a friendly smile and welcome whatever the role.

Many of our volunteers are long serving. Here is the group receiving their long service certificates at this years AGM.

We fund the Voluntary Services Department who manage the recruitment and vetting of all new volunteers.

Even dogs volunteer! One of our specialist volunteer roles is pet therapy. You can often see Sky with his handler Jane around the hospital.

We have purchased and maintain 4 vehicles for the hospital transport service. We buy replacements when required. In addition, we pay expenses for those volunteer drivers who use their own vehicles and fund the staff costs of the Transport Manager who runs the service.

We purchase the clothes for and volunteers run the Clothes for Dignity service. If someone is admitted to hospital after an accident or wearing their night clothes and does not have anyone to bring day clothes in, then the service provides clothes for them.

We fund the hospital wifi system so patients and visitors can use the internet for free during their visit to hospital.

We fund those things that make it more comfortable for patients and their family and friends. This includes comfy chairs, TVs and water coolers for waiting rooms and reclining chairs and beds so that relatives can stay overnight with their loved ones.

We fund additional specialist equipment over and above that the NHS will fund including this holder for a probe that the hospital uses to scan babies to detect any hip abnormalities

We fund those things that improved the hospital environment for everyone including these storage sheds for tools and plants for the hospital courtyards.
