About Us

Welcome to our website!

The Friends of Airedale have been supporting patient care since the hospital first opened in 1970.

Friends of Airedale volunteers undertake many different roles around the hospital: from running our two onsite cafes and shops, to the Dignity Room which provides essential clothing for patients, and the guides who help visitors and patients find their way around the building. We also operate the ward trolley service and run regular car boot sales throughout the summer. In addition, the charity runs a weekly lottery.

Our main source of income comes from our two retail shops/cafes, one in the outpatient’s area and one in the main entrance. Along with donations, bequests and other fund-raising activities, we have raised more than £2 million over the past 12 years.

The money goes towards buying vital equipment and services for the hospital, over and above that which the NHS will fund, with the aim of supporting patient care and improving the hospital experience for patients and their visitors.
