The Friends of Airedale got the wheels in motion when physiotherapists at Keighley’s The Oaks Resource Centre, asked if they could supply a specialist exercise bike to help with patient rehabilitation.

The centre offers outpatient physiotherapy in the community and needed an exercise bike that was easily accessible for less mobile people.

The £1,000 piece of equipment was presented to Team Lead Physiotherapist Keir Mackie by Friends of Airedale Trustee Jan Turner. Said Keir: “This will be an incredibly useful piece of equipment for the centre and is likely to be used most days as part of exercise classes we run from here as well as in one-to-one sessions with patients.”

Said Jan Turner: “We were delighted to step in and help Keir and the team – they seemed genuinely thrilled to take delivery of the new bike which couldn’t be funded through usual NHS channels. The aim of our charity is to improve the patient and visitor experience at both the main hospital and its satellite sites by providing grants for and towards all kinds of equipment and extras.”
